We regret to announce that Shoalwater Medical Centre is now a Mixed Billing Practice as of July 1st 2022.

As a practice we believe that everyone deserves to have access to high quality healthcare and so we have been offering our services as a bulk billing clinic. Unfortunately, the rebate we receive from Medicare does not cover the operational costs of the practice. We are committed to maintaining and providing the very best quality healthcare for our patients. We have not taken this step lightly but it has become necessary to protect the sustainability of our practice.

Fees and Billing Arrangements

Your doctor decides on your fee based on time and complexity. Holders of current Aged or Disability Pension Concession Cards and children 16 years and under are bulk billed. Single parents and carers will be eligible for a discounted fee.

Patients with Health Care cards are eligible for a discounted fee.  Some procedures may be billed privately.

DVA card holders are billed to DVA.

Please note – All Saturday appointments are privately charged. No bulk billing appointments available.

Appointments are billed based on time and complexity. Your doctor may choose to bulk bill you.  Please check with reception staff for current fees and Medicare rebates.  Please note that any procedures performed (e.g. ECG, spirometry, excisions etc) will accrue extra fees.

Payment of your account is expected at the time of consultation.  We will transmit your payment to Medicare for refund directly to you.  We accept cash, Eftpos and all major credit cards (except Diners and Amex).  Cheques will only be accepted in certain circumstances.

There are some consultations which may not attract a Medicare Rebate such as:

  • Workers compensation

  • Pre-employment Medical examinations

  • Insurance medical examinations

  • Patients not registered with Medicare
